Health Workforce Planning Branch provides leadership, direction and support to health regions and other stakeholders in planning the workforce for the health system.

The Nursing Secretariat works in conjunction with the Workforce Planning Branch, which includes a Planning and Recruitment Projects Unit and a Program and Resource Development Unit.

The branch develops strategic direction to optimize the development and use of the health workforce in support of patient and family-centered care. Areas of focus include:

  • Leadership and provincial coordination role in the area of health human resources
  • System planning and policy development related to the health workforce
  • Funding support and delivery of programs to support recruitment, retention and training of health professionals
  • Monitoring the self-regulated health professions and related legislation
  • Provide input into Pan-Canadian health human resource planning
