More than 70 cents of every dollar the  Saskatchewan Government spends on health care goes to compensation, wages and benefits for health workers and professionals.

The Health Workforce Planning Branch provides planning, leadership, direction and support to regions and other employers in the area of health systems workforce planning.

The branch develops strategic directions to optimize the use and development of the health workforce in support of quality health services. Areas of primary focus include:

  • strategic health workforce planning
  • policy development and management to determine the supply
  • competence, skill mix and distribution of the health workforce
  • legislation governing the health workforce
  • health workforce information and health workforce labour relations
