Surveillance activities to monitor the prevalence of the mosquito species (Culex tarsalis) that carries the West Nile virus will continue. If the weather in the summer appears to be creating a heightened human health risk due to West Nile vrus, there are contingency plans in place for responsive mosquito control efforts.

The Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities Association (SUMA) has developed a mosquito larvicide-purchasing program aimed at reducing product costs for smaller municipalities. The program provides the opportunity to purchase smaller quantities of product at bulk prices, making larviciding more cost effective to smaller communities.

For more information, contact SUMA at (306) 525-3727, fax 525-4373 or on the SUMA website. For mosquito control information, see Related Documents, below.
