Saskatchewan! Healthy people. A healthy province.

Alcohol is the most frequently used drug in Saskatchewan. Each year, underage youth are injured or killed because of alcohol use. The Alcohol and Drug Education and Prevention Directorate at the Saskatchewan Ministry of Health is addressing this issue by developing a Youth Substance Use Prevention Strategy.

The first step in the strategy is to raise awareness about the risks and consequences of underage alcohol use and engage parents in recognizing their responsibility in role modeling substance use practices and behaviours. This includes encouraging parents to delay the age their son or daughter begins using alcohol and discouraging the purchase of alcohol for their youth.

Phase 2 of the What Else Got Wasted? campaign includes innovative posters, point of sale displays at liquor stores and franchises, and ads on social marketing sites such as YouTube and Facebook.

This campaign begins our journey to reducing injuries and deaths due to alcohol and drug use, reducing binge drinking among young people, and changing the current attitude and culture where substance use is part of every experience, activity, and social gathering. As we continue to work together, our goal is to ensure that our youth will have safe and healthy life experiences.
