Did you know? The government will conduct a Patient First review of the health system to improve the system and ensure it is more responsive in meeting the needs of patients. Disease Prevention TuberculosisTuberculosis Control ProgramSaskatchewan Health is responsible for tuberculosis control in the province. The program is based at the Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon. It includes clinics at the Regina General Hospital and in the community health services unit in Prince Albert as well as numerous mobile clinics, particularly in northern Saskatchewan. Tuberculosis control also includes selected school and community screening programs. The program also collaborates with the Medical Services Branch of Health Canada to provide tuberculosis control services to First Nation reserves throughout Saskatchewan. Control of tuberculosis hinges on prevention, finding and providing supervised treatment of new cases, and educating the public. An innovative component of the TB Control Program - Directly Observed Treatment (D.O.T.) and Directly Observed Prophylaxis (D.O.P.) - ensures clients take their medications, which reduces the risk of drug resistance. |
