Sunrise Board Member BiographiesIvan Peterson, ChairpersonPrior to being appointed Chairperson, Ivan Peterson of Hazel Dell served as Vice-Chairperson for three years. Mr. Peterson is a retired teacher and is currently farming in the Hazel Dell area. His board experience includes membership on the former Assiniboine Valley District Health Board, a long-term care facility and a credit union. Greg Kobylka, Vice ChairpersonGreg Kobylka of Yorkton is the Sales and Retail Development Co-ordinator and Corporate Trainer for Western Canada Lottery Corporation. I n addition to attending the University of Saskatchewan he has completed the Fire Service Instructor course and is a member of the Yorkton Volunteer Fire Protection Services. Irene AdamsIrene Adams of Langenburg was a senior English teacher in Langenburg High School. Her past community involvement includes the Langenburg Town Council, Langenburg Hospital Board, and the Langenburg Care Home Board. She was also on the Community Health Advisory Committee as chairperson for five years. In addition to her community involvement, her volunteer activities include the Langenburg Arts Council, Langenburg Museum Committee, Superannuated Teachers of Saskatchewan, Congregational Lay Assistant Program of the Saskatchewan Synod-Lutheran Church, and two committees of the Family and Friends Community Foundation (Palliative Care Committee, Friends of Langenburg Schools Committee). Lawrence ChomosMr. Lawrence Chomos of Esterhazy was the director of education of the former Potashville School Division and regional director of education in Saskatoon until 2002. Since 2002 Lawrence has taught educational finance and worked for the Saskatchewan Educational Leadership Unit at the University of Saskatchewan. His board experience includes being a member of the former North Valley District Health Board, chairperson of the Saskatoon Regional Intersectoral Committee, and chairperson of St. Anthony’s Hospital. Patricia HackPatricia Hack of Foam Lake teaches at Foam Lake Composite School. She also has 13 years experience as a principal. Her board experience includes being past chair of the Shamrock Administrators Group and past president and treasurer of the Shamrock Teachers’ Association. Community involvement includes “Breast Friends”, a non-profit organization to raise funds for cancer causes. Janet HillJanet Hill of Yorkton is recently retired from the business community. Mrs. Hill is on the board of the Yorkton Short Film and Video Festival and is a member of the Health Foundation of East Central Saskatchewan. A former member of the East Central Health District, she also served for two and a half terms as City Councillor for Yorkton, is a member of the newly formed Assiniboine Watershed Protection Committee and is actively involved as a volunteer in the community. Audrey HorkoffAudrey Horkoff of Kamsack is a farmer/rancher in the Kamsack area. Her community involvement includes being a member of the Kamsack Chamber of Commerce, Advisory Member of Kamsack Economic Development Board, and board member of the Affinity Credit Union. Her provincial and national involvement includes the Saskatchewan Charolais Association Canadian Charolais Association, Canadian Western Agribition, Parkland Organic Crop Improvement Co-op, SK Ag and Food “Farm Support Review Committee, the Saskatchewan Livestock Association, and Co-chair of ACRE (Action Committee on the Rural Economy). Karen KeshaneKaren Keshane of Key First Nation is a former Band Councilor of Key First Nation and a former Community Health Representative for Key First Nation. In addition, she was a member of the former Assiniboine Valley District Health Board, and a board member and past president of the National Indian/Inuit Community Health Representatives Organization. Ms. Keshane was also the President of the Saskatchewan Community Representative Association. Jennie OrtynskyJennie Ortynsky of Canora is a registered nurse who worked in St. Paul’s Hospital, Saskatoon, Yorkton Union Hospital and Canora Union Hospital. Her community involvement includes the Canora District Board of Education, the Saskatchewan Action Plan for Children, Town of Canora, Community Planning Commission, Recreation and Cultural Board, Home and School Association, Band Boosters Committee, Parkland Music Festival and Special Needs Committee. In addition to her community activities she was the chairperson of the former Assiniboine Valley District Health Board and the Canora Home Care Board. She was the founding member and secretary of the provincial Board of Directors for the Saskatchewan Union of Nurses. Ms. Ortynsky received the 2000 Saskatchewan Registered Nurses Association “Nora Armstrong Award” for Health Advocacy. Dennis PopowichDennis Popowich of Yorkton, is the owner/manager of Premiere Building Inspections Ltd. He is also an instructor of management services at the Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies teaching business finance, microeconomics, commercial law and statistics. His experience includes being a board member of the Community Planning Commission of Yorkton, Economic Planning Commission of Yorkton and the York Lake Golf Club. Grant SeeGrant See of Preeceville is a former member of the Cariboo Regional District Board in British Columbia, was Chairperson of the Cariboo Chilcotin Health District, and is the former Mayor of the Town of Preeceville. Mr. See retired from a career in auto trades in B.C. to the community of Preeceville, held the position of Mayor for six years, and is still involved with the Parkland Regional Waste Management Authority and the provincial municipal waste management body, ARWMAS. Mr. See enjoys amateur radio as a hobby and is involved in emergency communication and planning. Walter StreelaskyDr. Walter Streelasky is currently the Mayor of the City of Melville and has served as President of the Horizon Credit Union for the past 16 years. He is Chairperson of the Melville and District Physician Recruitment and Retention Committee and serves on the Board of the Sunrise Regional Health Authority. He is Chairperson of the Melville 2008 Centennial Celebrations Committee. Dr. Streelasky is a Faculty Advisor for both the University of Regina and Brandon University. |
