Seniors' Drug Plan Seniors' Drug Plan until June 30, 2008Seniors' Drug Plan - Until June 30, 2008The drug plan available to all Saskatchewan residents 65 years of age and older is valid until June 30, 2008 only. At that time, residents who have applied for the new Seniors’ Drug Plan will have eligible prescription drugs covered, provided they meet the income criteria. You should receive an application form in the mail. You can also phone for a form, or download it through the following link.
Coverage until June 30Under this program, seniors pay no more than $15 per prescription for drugs listed in the Saskatchewan Formulary or approved under Exception Drug Status. Seniors continue to pay full price for any non-formulary, over-the-counter, and non-traditional (herbal) medications. The Seniors’ Drug Plan does not cover other health benefits, such as dental, optical or ambulance costs. EligibilityUntil June 30, 2008, Saskatchewan seniors 65 and older are automatically eligible for coverage. Your coverage begins the first of the month in which you turn 65. Through their online network, your pharmacy will be aware of your coverage at the time you have a prescription filled. This program does not include seniors who are covered under federal government programs, such as the federal Non-Insured Health Benefits Program. If you already pay less than $15 per prescription … If you receive drug coverage based on your Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS), Saskatchewan Income Plan (SIP), or Special Support Program coverage, you will pay the lesser of the program plan coverage or Seniors’ Drug Plan coverage. That means that if the cost of your prescription under GIS, SIP or Special Support is less than $15, then you will pay the lesser amount. If you have Palliative Care coverage or drug coverage under Saskatchewan Aids to Independent Living (SAIL) including paraplegia, cystic fibrosis, and end stage renal disease programs, you will continue to pay no cost for your prescriptions. Starting July 1, 2008Starting July 1, 2008, you will be required to apply to receive coverage under the new Seniors’ Drug Plan.
