Saskatchewan Cancer Agency Board Member BiographiesJon Schubert, ChairpersonJon Schubert of Regina has been the president and chief executive officer of Saskatchewan Government Insurance (SGI) since 2004. He brings to the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency his past experience in both the public and private sectors on several board and international medical research task forces. Carolyn Rebeyka, Vice-ChairpersonCarolyn Rebeyka of Saskatoon is the Executive Director of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), Local 333. She is currently working towards her BA degree. Ms. Rebeyka has been involved with both elected and volunteer boards. She has the ability to understand public policy mandates and has several years experience doing advocacy/casework related to health care issues. Denis CaronDenis Caron of Saskatoon is the Dean of Industrial Training for the Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Science and Technology, based in Saskatoon. Previously from Moose Jaw, he brings 20 years of experience as an educator and administrator, and has served ten (10) years on a district health board and a regional health authority. He has also served for two years as vice-chairperson of the Saskatchewan Association of Health Organizations. Douglas FinnieIn 2005 Doug Finnie retired from a lengthy career in financial services with Royal Bank of Canada and Canadian Western Bank. He was a member of the Saskatoon Regional Health Authority since 2005. He is also a member of Saskatchewan Association of Health Organizations. From 1991 to 1993 he served as Chairperson of St. Paul’s Hospital Foundation and from 1992 to 1998 was a member of the Board of Directors of St. Paul’s Hospital. Doug has served on many organization boards including Saskatoon Chamber of Commerce, University of Saskatchewan Senate and Saskatoon United Way. Doug’s diverse work experience includes financial, human resources, sales and systems management in Montreal, Winnipeg, New York, Regina, Saskatoon and Toronto. He is a graduate of McGill University (MBA) and University of Manitoba (B. Comm.). Doug and his wife Jane have three children and four grandchildren. Mark FrisonMark Frison of Swift Current is the president and chief executive officer of Cypress Hills Regional College. He was the director of development and operations of the Cape Breton Growth Fund Corporation and was responsible for the economic development fund. He is very involved in community activities and is a member of several finance committees. Gordon JoyceGordon Joyce of Regina has been a chartered accountant for 30 years and owns his own accounting practice. He has several years board experience and served for five years as the finance chairperson of the Saskatchewan Division of Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada. Prior to becoming president of the Saskatchewan Division of the Canadian Cancer Society in May 2005, Mr. Joyce served as the financial chairperson for nine years. Mr. Joyce is also a long-time volunteer with various sports organizations. Laura KennedyLaura Kennedy of Saskatoon is the Associate Vice-President (Financial Services) and Controller for the University of Saskatchewan, a position she has held for the past 12 years. Prior to joining the University, Laura worked in the health-care field in Saskatchewan, including several years with the Provincial Government as a financial analyst, and six years as Director of Finance for the Wascana Rehabilitation Centre. Ms. Kennedy is currently Chair of the Canadian Association of University Business Officers (CAUBO) Finance Committee. Her community board experience includes being the Chair of the Finance Committee for the Victorian Order of Nurses (Regina Branch). J. Stewart McMillanDr. J. Stewart McMillan of Regina has been very involved with the health care sector serving as chairperson of the Health Services Utilization Research Council, chairperson of the Health Quality Council, board member of the South Saskatchewan Hospital Centre and chairperson of several utilization and quality committees. He has been a physician for 33 years and has extensive knowledge of the health system. He has chaired several task forces on hospital utilization and management systems, and was the past President of the Saskatchewan College of Physicians and Surgeons, Saskatchewan Medical Association, Medical Council of Canada and Regina Palliative Care Inc. Wayne PearsonWayne Pearson of Prince Albert was the general manager of several successful provincial retail outlets in Meadow Lake, Canora, Yorkton and Prince Albert. He has served as a member of the Prince Albert District Health Board and on the executive of the Chamber of Commerce. He also served as president and secretary of the Lions Club and is currently serving on two library boards. Moyez SomaniMoyez Somani of Regina is the executive vice-president and chief financial officer for Farm Credit Canada. He has over 20 years of senior management experience in the financial service sector and has several years of board experience. He is actively involved in the local community serving as 1st vice-president on the Executive of the Provincial Council for Certified Management Accountants (CMA) Saskatchewan. He is also a member of the Investment Committee for the AgriFood Equity Fund and a member of Financial Executives International as well as the National Council of Financial Executives. Walter StreelaskyDr. Walter Streelasky is currently the Mayor of the City of Melville and has served as President of the Horizon Credit Union for the past 16 years. He is Chairperson of the Melville and District Physician Recruitment and Retention Committee and serves on the Board of the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency. He is Chairperson of the Melville 2008 Centennial Celebrations Committee. Dr. Streelasky is a Faculty Advisor for both the University of Regina and Brandon University. |
