The Recreational Water Quality Program works to maintain safe recreational waters.  Through Public Health Inspectors, the Health Regions permit and inspect public swimming pools and respond to water quality issues at recreational beaches.

Blue-green algae commonly occur during calm, hot weather in areas of lakes and reservoirs with shallow, slow moving or still water that is rich in nutrients.
