Alcohol and Drug Services Alcohol and Drug Common QuestionsHow do I access alcohol and drug services? The first place to start is by contacting Alcohol and Drug Services (also referred to as Addictions Services) at your local health region. There is also a directory on this site of all alcohol and drug services in the province, by location and type. What alcohol and drug services are available for youth?Alcohol and drug services are available for youth and their families in every Saskatchewan health authority and across the North. In addition to providing direct counselling and intervention services, many agencies are involved in alcohol and drug awareness and prevention programs through the schools and in other settings. Specialized youth services are available on an outpatient basis in all regional health authorities. Saskatchewan Health also funds community-based organizations, such as the Métis Addictions Council of Saskatchewan Health Inc. (MACSI) that has workers devoted to treating youth addictions. For Saskatchewan youth requiring residential treatment services, the Calder Centre Adolescent Program provides 24 hour substance abuse treatment services staffed by a multi-disciplined clinical team. Pine View Terrace in Prince Albert provides 24 hour residential treatment for youth. Other inpatient facilities may admit youth where appropriate. Youth requiring short term stabilization and detoxification services can access them at the Calder Centre in Saskatoon (voluntary) or can be admitted to the Secure Youth Detox Centre in Regina (involuntary). What is Saskatchewan Health doing to address the issue of drinking and driving?Saskatchewan Health funds the Safe Driving Program (see link below)and the Saskatchewan Impaired Driver Treatment Centre. The Safe Driving Program is for drivers who have been convicted of impaired driving charges. Saskatchewan Impaired Driver Treatment Centre (SIDTC) is an inpatient treatment facility specifically devoted to individuals who have received two or more impaired driving charges. The centre is a two-week treatment program for males and females with a second or subsequent impaired driving charge. Those charged with impaired driving can voluntarily choose to attend the (SIDTC) program as an alternative to serving their sentence in a correctional centre. The two weeks spent at (SIDTC) count as equivalent to jail time and includes follow-up counselling as a condition of a six-month probation order. These clients are subject to additional requirements under new Safe Driving Legislation including additional assessment by health region addiction workers prior to license reinstatement. Other clients come to the Impaired Driver Treatment Program directly from correctional centres. These clients have been screened by a Corrections placement co-ordinator before admittance to the program.
