Enabling the Provincial Electronic Health Record (EHR) Strategy Provider Registry SystemThe Provider Registry system stores and manages data about Saskatchewan Health Providers. As a trusted source that uniquely identifies providers with a Common Provider Number (CPN), the Provider Registry facilitates the exchange of health information between participating organizations and forms one of the fundamental building blocks of the pan-Canadian Electronic Health Record (EHR). First implemented in Saskatchewan in 2004, as a partnership between Western Health Information Collaborative (WHIC), Canada Health Infoway and HISC, the Provider Registry System (PRS) is a standards-based repository of core provider data supplied by authorized sources:
![]() Key stakeholders for this project include all Saskatchewan Health Regions, the College of Physicians and Surgeons, College of Dental Surgeons of Saskatchewan, Saskatchewan College of Pharmacists, the Saskatchewan Registered Nurses Association, the Saskatchewan Association of Optometrists, and any other licensed health care providers that are added as sources to the repository. As well, there is an expectation as the EHR develops and unfolds, that other projects and programs such as Pharmacy Information Program, Diagnostic Imaging and Client Registry will be able to interface to the PRS as the source of truth for provider information.
