Resources for problem gambling prevention and education

Saskatchewan Health delivers co-ordinated education and prevention programs designed to educate and support individuals and communities in reducing the risks associated with gambling. These include a media campaign of radio and billboard ads, grants to communities, seniors' and post secondary awareness initiatives, interactive displays at the Saskatchewan Science Centre, prevention resources for teachers and specialized resources for youth, families and First Nations people.

A wide selection of resources has been developed. All material is available to Saskatchewan residents free of charge.

The Problem Gambling Community Program

The Canadian Mental Association through its Problem Gambling Community Program is part of the provincial prevention and education strategy. As a community-based organization they deliver public education programming that focuses on local issues and concerns related to problem gambling. CMHA’s work includes:

1. Consulting with community groups and human service organizations to develop strategies for the prevention, identification and early intervention of problem gambling.
2. Delivering workshops and in-service presentations on problem gambling to schools, groups and organizations.
3. Speaking publicly about problem gambling to community groups and organizations.
4. Responding to requests for information on problem gambling.
5. Providing assistance in the development of self-help groups for problem gamblers and their families.

For further information about the Problem Gambling Community Program or if you would like to know more about a local problem gambling committee, please contact the director or co-ordinator in your area.
