Saskatchewan Health's Communications Branch plays a key role in ensuring Saskatchewan residents have up-to-date, accurate information about health, health programs and services, and the health system. The branch uses a variety of methods to communicate with the people of the province, both directly and indirectly, through the media. These include:
- news releases and news conferences;
- publications, including brochures, fact sheets and reports;
- advertising in provincial and local media;
- speeches by ministry officials and the ministers to community groups, professional associations and others;
- the Saskatchewan Health web site; and
- letters from the ministers and ministry officials to groups and individuals.
In addition to this public information role, the branch also:
- co-ordinates the ministry's ongoing communications with health regions and other interested groups and agencies in the health sector;
- provides strategic communication advice and support to senior officials;
- manages public opinion research on health issues;
- works with other government departments and levels of government to facilitate an improved understanding of health and related issues; and
- co-ordinates the flow of information between employees within the ministry.
