Saskatchewan! Healthy people. A healthy province.

Clinical Care Pathways are an integral part of Saskatchewan's commitment to providing sooner, safer, smarter surgical care, through the Saskatchewan Surgical Initiative (see Related Links below).  Pathways use best practices to streamline each step in a patient's journey, from the time they see a primary care provider until they have completed rehab following surgery.

SASKATCHEWAN PATHWAY PROJECTS

Saskatchewan health regions are successfully applying pathway processes in selected areas of health care, and together with the Ministry of Health, are developing new pathways in several others.

Saskatchewan has introduced new processes for patients considering total hip or knee replacement surgery. This multi-disciplinary approach is expected to shorten wait times and improve patient preparation for surgery.

Saskatchewan has implemented a "spine pathway" for people with low back pain. It is improving assessment of low back pain by family physicians and other health providers, and helping patients get the most appropriate treatment for their condition.

Saskatchewan's new pathway to assess and support men diagnosed with prostate cancer provides clear, practical information that helps patients make decisions about their care.

Saskatchewan's bariatric surgery program is available through Regina Qu'Appelle Health Region, and offers a six-month program of assessment, education and support to those struggling with obesity.

Saskatchewan is developing a uro-gynecological pathway for women experiencing incontinence and other gynecological conditions. The new processes will help educate women about their treatment options.
