Bursaries and grants are available for health workers and professionals who will commit to work in Saskatchewan's publicly-funded health system.

Out of Province/Out of Canada Coverage

Saskatchewan Health covers most hospital and medical care you receive in Canada by a reciprocal billing arrangement with other health systems. Health provides only limited coverage for emergency medical care from approved general hospitals outside Canada.

Most medical services received in Canada are covered by Saskatchewan Health.

If a patient is referred outside of Canada by a physician for treatment not available in Saskatchewan or another province, Saskatchewan Health will cover the full cost of the treatment, if approved in advance of treatment.

Costs for hospital services outside of Canada may be much higher than in Saskatchewan. You will be responsible for the portion above what Saskatchewan Health pays. Additional insurance is recommended for travel outside the country.

Emergency Services are covered at Saskatchewan rates.

If you are billed directly for services outside Canada there are steps you can take so Saskatchewan Health can repay you.

If you are planning to leave the country, read the items above and make sure you have additional health insurance.
