Public health nutrition programs focus on promotion of nutritional health and primary prevention of illness throughout the lifespan. The emphasis is on creating communities where it is easier for people to make healthy choices. For example, how nutritious is the food available in stores, workplaces and schools? What types of foods are served at community gatherings and meetings?

The Ministry of Health supports public health programs by:

  • providing program advice;
  • supporting Ministry and other provincial government initiatives related to public health nutrition;
  • linking with public health nutrition-related initiatives in Saskatchewan, at a national level and in other provinces;
  • supporting collaboration and partnerships with other groups that work on nutrition issues; and
  • maintaining print inventories of health promotion materials
