Protecting our young people Fines

Although the concentrated level of smoke in vehicles is harmful to everyone, it is especially harmful to young people who are still physically developing. There is evidence that tobacco smoke in vehicles reaches unhealthy levels, even in realistic ventilation conditions.

Smoking in vehicles when people under 16 are present will result in a monetary fine. A charge of $220 has been established if an offence is to occur.

Joining the ranks Enforcement
Saskatchewan has joined the majority of other provinces and territories in Canada which have already banned smoking in vehicles when children are present. This legislation applies to all classes of vehicles at any time that children and youth are present. The RCMP and municipal police throughout the province will be enforcing the ban on smoking in vehicles when children under the age of 16 are present.

Smoking within 3 metres of doors, windows and air intakes of all Saskatchewan public buildings is now against the law.

Distance

Through the amendments to the Tobacco Control Act, smoking within three metres of all doorways, windows and air intakes of enclosed public places is now prohibited.

To ensure that environmental tobacco smoke does not migrate into public places, we have established this smoke-free zone around doorways, windows and air-intakes of public buildings. Expect smoke-free entrances.

No smoking within 3 metres of buildings
