Saskatchewan Health is involved with a number of initiatives related to FASD both in the province, and through an inter-provincial/territorial partnership.

Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Awareness Day

In June 2002 the Government of Saskatchewan passed legislation declaring September 9 to be FAS Awareness Day.

Saskatchewan Prevention Institute

The Saskatchewan Prevention Institute, a non-profit organization, co-ordinates and administers a provincial Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) Prevention Program. This program is funded by the provincial ministries of Health and Social Services.

Initiatives include:

  • raising public awareness and providing education across the province;
  • developing and distributing resources and information;
  • providing provincial co-ordination, and supporting communities in their efforts to address FASD.

Interdepartmental Committee on FASD

Saskatchewan Health currently chairs the committee, which has representation from several provincial ministries.

Canada Northwest Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) Partnership

Canadian FASD Partnership - www.cnfasdpartnership.ca

Saskatchewan participates on this partnership along with Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Northwest Territories, Nunavut Territory and Yukon Territory. Through this initiative, the provincial/territorial partners are able to learn from one another, share expertise and resources. Joint conferences and symposiums are also held.
