Deputy Minister of Health

Dan Florizone was appointed Deputy Minister of Health effective August 1, 2008. He holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Regina and a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Saskatchewan.

Dan has almost 25 years of experience in the health care sector. He has served since April of 2003 as the CEO of the Five Hills Health Region. He has experience as the Assistant Deputy Minister of Health. He has also filled the role of CEO for Moose Jaw Thunder Creek Health District, and South East Health District.

He has extensive experience across the province having held senior positions in hospitals in Canora, Invermay, Norquay, Wilkie, Gainsborough and Oxbow.

Dan has participated in many national and international initiatives, committees and projects. Recently, he served as the Chairperson of the Saskatchewan Health Quality Council.

Associate Deputy Minister

Gren Smith-Windsor

Gren Smith-Windsor was appointed Associate Deputy Minister of Health in November 2007, and served as Acting Deputy Minister until July 31, 2008.

Gren has served the people of Saskatchewan as a health sector leader since 1967, when he joined Saskatoon's St. Paul's Hospital. He worked at Royal University Hospital in the 1970s. After leaving the Saskatchewan health sector for 5 years, Gren returned to lead as President and Chief Executive Officer of Wascana Rehabilitation Centre in Regina, a position he held until 1993. During his tenure there the centre developed world class rehabilitation and long term care facilities, programs and services.

When health reform in Saskatchewan led to the creation of health districts, Gren assumed responsibilities for leading the Central Plains Health District as the first CEO. Gren served as CEO in the Gabriel Springs Health District from 1998 until the formation of health regions in 2002. With that transition, he became CEO for the Prince Albert Parkland Health Region, where he served until 2005. He served as Acting Deputy Minister of Health from November 2007 to July 2008.

Gren also has previous experience with the Government of Saskatchewan. From 1982 to 1985 he served as Clerk of Executive Council, Cabinet Secretary and Acting Deputy Minister to the Premier.

He is married, with three daughters and five grandchildren.

Associate Deputy Minister

Dr. Louise Greenberg

Louise Greenberg was appointed in 2006 as Associate Deputy Minister responsible for the regional health authorities, the Community Care branch and seniors.

Louise started working for the Government of Saskatchewan in 1985 and has worked in several ministries in a number of progressively senior positions. Work experience has included policy development, extension, operational and regulatory management.

In 2001, Louise was a Government of Saskatchewan Senior Fellow at the Saskatchewan Institute of Public Policy (SIPP). While at SIPP, she authored the publication "Should Canadians Be Concerned? Food Safety in Canada" and coauthored the publication "A Survey of the GM Industry in Saskatchewan and Western Canada".

Prior to her appointment at Health, Louise was the Deputy Minister for the Department of Regional Economic and Co-operative Development. She has also served as an Assistant Deputy Minister in Saskatchewan Agriculture and Food for three years.

Louise has two degrees from McGill University and graduated with a doctorate in agriculture (animal science) from the University of Saskatchewan. Louise enjoys spending time with her husband Earl, her numerous pets and enjoying the great Saskatchewan outdoors.

Associate Deputy Minister

Michael Shaw

Mike has held a number of senior leadership positions in Saskatchewan’s public service, including Deputy Minister of Highways and Transportation, Deputy Minister of Environment and Resource Management, chair of the Public Service Commission, and Senior Vice-president with the Crown Investments Corporation. In the past, Mike also served as Vice-president of Management Services with the Regina General Hospital.

In 2003 Mike joined Saskatchewan Health as Associate Deputy Minister responsible for health services delivery, labour relations and health human resources. Since 2006, his responsibilities have been focused on organizational development and leadership development.

Special Advisor

Duncan Fisher was appointed Special Advisor in the Ministry of Health in July 2008.

He most recently served as the Deputy Minister of Social Services.

Duncan served with Health as Assistant Deputy Minister until 2006, and has held a number of senior positions with the Government of Saskatchewan, including Assistant Deputy Minister of Social Services.

Assistant Deputy Minister

Max Hendricks

Max Hendricks began in 2006 as Assistant Deputy Minister responsible for the Medical Services Plan, the Saskatchewan Prescription Drug Plan, primary health services, finance and administration, provincial health information technology initiatives and health registration and vital statistics.

Max began his career with Saskatchewan Health in 1991. He has served in a number of progressively senior positions with the ministry, including Executive Director of the Finance and Administration branch and Executive Director of the Medical Services branch. He also spent 2 years with Saskatchewan Finance as the Treasury Board analyst for Health. Max enjoys spending his free time with his wife Sandra and their three beautiful children, Lexy, Zac and Katherine.

Assistant Deputy Minister

Lauren Donnelly

Lauren Donnelly began in 2006 as Assistant Deputy Minister responsible for acute and emergency services; population health services, workforce planning and the Saskatchewan Disease  Control Laboratory.

Lauren began her career with Saskatchewan Health in 1983. She has served in a number of senior positions with the ministry, including Executive Director of the Acute and Emergency Services branch. She also worked for a short time with Saskatchewan Finance as a Treasury Board analyst.

When away from the office, Lauren can be found at sports and cultural events with one of her family members (Richard, Brenna, Erin and Ryan), in a yoga class or in the garden.

Although health is a provincial jurisdiction, the federal government is responsible for First Nations health care. The government also funds provincial and territorial health initiatives and provides oversight in areas such as public health and national  health care standards and access.
