Diabetes Diabetes Provincial CoordinationMarlene Chapellaz is the provincial diabetes co-ordinator. This position provides leadership and project management support to Saskatchewan Health, health districts and community agencies, in the development of their programs that will impact diabetes prevention and care in Saskatchewan. This position is responsible for monitoring the implementation of existing standards and guidelines related to prevention, education, care and surveillance of diabetes. This position also manages and directs the daily responsibilities of an aboriginal diabetes consultant position. The provincial diabetes coordinator represents the Ministry at federal/provincial/territorial meetings on diabetes and is the secretariat for the Provincial Diabetes Advisory Body. A Provincial Diabetes Advisory Body was established in 2001 to provide the Ministry with advice on issues pertaining to successful co-ordination of diabetes programs. Membership includes three representatives from the Aboriginal community (FSIN, MNS, FNIHB), three health region representatives, two physicians, one representative from the Canadian Diabetes Association, and five representatives from the Ministry of Health. This advisory body provides the Ministry with advice and assistance in addressing diabetes issues.
