The government will conduct a Patient First review of the health system to improve the system and ensure it is more responsive in meeting the needs of patients.

Based on Saskatchewan's health sector priorities, current Health Information Solutions Centre (HISC) project initiatives for the planning and implementation of new information systems and solutions fall into three main areas:

Several foundation services for the EHR are already in progress or in place and a number of new initiatives will continue to enable the transformation of health care delivery as we move toward the realization of a Saskatchewan Electronic Health Record that is better, safer, faster, and secure.
A number of hospital and community systems are already in place or in progress.  Projects to implement new systems and make improvements to existing systems will continue to improve patient care, introduce efficiencies and provide for better decision making at the point of care.

Since 2001, HISC has been working with Regional Health Authorities to implement common, shared health care information systems through a program called the Integrated Clinical Systems (ICS). ICS includes a Clinical Viewer, Pharmacy, CPI/Registration, Lab, Transcription, and Home Care systems.

All of HISC's projects are part of the provincial information technology and management planning process, which is updated each year in collaboration with the health regions and care provider groups.
