Saskatchewan Aids to Independent Living Special Benefit ProgramsIn addition to regular program benefits, extended coverage is provided to beneficiaries with specific disabling conditions under the following programs: Aids to the Blind ProgramOperated by Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB) under contract to Saskatchewan Health. Children's Insulin Pump ProgramApplicants under 18 years with Type 1 diabetes must have an insulin pump recommended by a specialist as a medical necessity. They must be assessed by a regional health authority diabetes program and participate in a diabetes education program. An insulin pump will be provided free of charge. Supplies may be covered under one of a number of programs, including the Saskatchewan Drug Plan, the Supplementary Health Program, Family Health Benefits or certain programs under SAIL. Cystic Fibrosis ProgramPatients must be referred by specialist physicians. Benefits include:
End Stage Renal Disease ProgramPatients must have chronic renal disease and require dialysis or transplantation or both and be referred by specialist physicians. Benefits include: drugs listed in the Saskatchewan Formulary and certain drugs approved for coverage under the Drug Plan Exception Drug Status. Ostomy ProgramPatients must have a qualifying ostomy and referred by an enterostomal therapist. Benefits include 50% reimbursement of the cost of select ostomy supplies. Patients are required to pay the full cost of the supplies and submit receipts for reimbursement. Paraplegia ProgramPatients must be referred by a specialist in rehabilitation medicine (physiatrist) for benefits. Benefits include:
