Adoptions

Under The Vital Statistics Act, 1995 of Saskatchewan, Vital Statistics can release only post-adoption information with respect to a birth registration. To apply for a birth certificate where an adoption has occurred, you must provide details of the adoption including the adoptive name of the child and the names of the adoptive parents.

For pre-adoption information, you must contact the provincial or territorial agency where the adoption occurred to obtain information on how and what information can be released. In Saskatchewan, contact the Department of Community Resources and Employment at:

Information on birth certificates and how to obtain one.

By law, the birth of every child in Saskatchewan must be registered with Vital Statistics within 15 days after the birth.
Registering births, deaths, marriages, stillbirths and changes of name that occur in the province; also issuing certificates of legal proof of vital events and providing statistical information for agencies and the public.
